Combined Shops and Plant Hospital

The large building in the center was the Combined Shops. This building housed a Tool & Die Shop, Machine Shop, Pipe Shop, Sheet Metal Shop, Millwright Shop, Paint Shop, Electric Shop, and Carpenter Shop. The buildings behind the Combined Shops was the Stores where all the supplies needed for operations, maintenance, special clothing and safety equipment were dispensed and received. The buildings at the left and right of the Combined Shops were a Forge and Weld Shop, and the Riggers Loft. The area at right end of the photo is where a motor vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance facility was built. The buildings in front of the Combined Shops are ,left to right, Plant Hospital, Cafeteria in WWII later converted to the Instrument Shop, Change House, Lead Burning Shop, Metrology Lab., four Change Houses, and the Combined Shops Superintendent's Office.
